Admissions Answers

1. I lost my letter of offer or CoE what should I do?

Visit our Customer Service Team in building 208 and they can provide a copy to you.

2. Do I need to be on a student visa to student English?

Not necessarily. If you are on a tourist visa, which is valid for 3 months, you can study up to 12 weeks.
If you are on a working holiday visa, which is valid for 1 year, you can study up to 17 weeks.
Remember to buy health insurance that will cover you while you are in Australia.

3. The name on my student card is wrong, what should I do?

Bring your passport to our office in Building 208 Room 129C and we will make the necessary changes.

4. My student card is not working, where should I go?

Come to our Customer Service Team in building 208 and we will try and help you or refer you to the best person.

5. I have applied for my Curtin university letter of offer but have not received it yet, what can I do?

Email study@curtin.edu.au for an update of the status of your application.

6. What do I need to apply for the ELB course?

Refer to the ELB entry requirements as outlined in the ELB section of Curtin English's Courses page.


7. Can someone else make changes or requests regarding my enrolment?

If you would like someone to act on your behalf to collect information or make changes to your enrolment, you will first need to complete Curtin's Disclosure of Information and Proxy Authorisation Form. This form can be found on Curtin's student website.


8. I want to change my mainstream offer, what should I do?

Please contact Curtin International at ci-apply@curtin.edu.au or visit our friendly staff in Student Service Centre (Building 101).

ELICOS answers

1. What are the different ELICOS courses?

Curtin's ELICOS program offers General English (GE), General Professional English (GPE) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP).

2. I have a family emergency and I need to go home, who should I contact?

Please come to the Curtin English Customer Service and make an appointment to see our Student Advisor, you will be required to complete a leave request form if you are coming back or an early withdrawal form if you are stopping your studies. Our Student Advisor will let you know if we need any other documents.

3. I have not met entry into Curtin College, what should I do?

You should contact Curtin College (Building 205) and speak to someone from their Admissions Team.

4. I have not met entry into the English Language Bridging course, what should I should?

You will be given an appointment time to meet with a Curtin English staff member, please check your Curtin email or ask our Customer Service team for more information.

5. I feel like my class is too easy, can I change class?

You need to provide us with English test score results showing that your English level is higher than the class you are currently in. Please bring the result to our Customer Service team.

6. I feel like my class is too hard, can I change class?

Please talk to your teacher or come and make an appointment at our Customer Service to meet with the ELICOS Coordinator.

7. Can I resit an exam?

Only under two circumstances can you resit an exam:

     a. You were sick and have a medical certificate; or

     b. You have a personal issue and saw a counsellor.

8. My Blackboard is not working, who can help me?

Ask your teacher to speak to the ELICOS Coordinator or come to our Customer Service.

9. I was absent when the results were given out, how can I get my results? 

Please collect your results from our Customer Service.

10. I have met entry to Curtin College/ELB/Curtin University, what should I do?

You will need to obtain a paper from Curtin College/Curtin English/Curtin University saying that you have met entry into your course. Depending on how much time you have until your course begins you might be allowed to stop your studies with us. Please come and meet our Student Advisor with your letter from Curtin International, English scores and air plane ticket if you are going back home until your course starts.

11. I want to study English somewhere else, what should I do?

Only after the first six month of studying with us can you usually change school. If that is the case, ask to meet our Student Advisor and bring your new letter of offer along.

12. How can I get a refund?

Depending on why you are seeking a refund you will be asked for the appropriate documents. In all circumstances you will be required to complete and sign a Refund Form and an early withdrawal form.

You will need to submit these along with further documents to our Student Advisor. Please also read our Refund Policy for more information about how much money you can expect.

ELB answers

1. What are the entry requirements to the ELB course?

At application, you will be asked to provide Curtin English with your university letter of offer. This states the IELTS or equivalent score required to start your mainstream course. You need to have an IELTS or equivalent of one band below your letter of offer for the 17 week course or half a band below for the 10 week course.

2. What score do I need to get into the university?

Please see your Curtin University letter of offer. You can also visit Curtin International in Building 101 (if you are an international student) or the faculty you are applying with (if you are a Permanent Resident/Citizen of Australia). 

3. I want to change my class, is it possible?

You cannot change your class – if there is something you don’t like try to talk to your teacher or please make an appointment to see the Student Advisor. 

4. I have a family emergency and I need to go home, who should I contact?

Please come to the Curtin English Customer Service and make an appointment to see our Student Advisor, you will be required to complete a leave request form if you are coming back or an early withdrawal form if you are stopping your studies. Our Student Advisor will let you know if we need any other documents. 

5. How do I make an appointment to see the ELB Coordinator?

You need a referral slip from your teacher. Present that slip to our Customer Service Officer and they will make an appointment for you.

6. My Blackboard is not working, what should I do?

Ask your teacher to speak to the ELB Coordinator or come to our Customer Service.

7. I was unable to collect my results, how can I get my results?

Please check your Blackboard or make an appointment with the ELB Coordinator through our Customer Service.

8. I have met entry to Curtin university, what can I do?

You will need to obtain a paper from Curtin International saying that you have met entry into your course. Depending on how much time you have until your course begins you might be allowed to stop your studies with us. Please come and meet our Student Advisor with your letter from Curtin International and airplane ticket if you are going back home until your course starts.

9. How can I get a refund?

General answers

1. I was unwell and did not attend class, do I need a medical certificate?

You will need a medical certificate if you are absent for more than 2 days. Please bring it to our Student Advisor.

2. I lost my results/completion certificate, what should I do?

Complete and sign a Student Request Form and drop it at our Customer Service. Please note that you will need to pay $10 for each result/completion certificate copy you request.

3. How do I get an attendance certificate?

Complete and sign a Student Request Form and drop it at our Customer Service. Please note that you will need to pay $10 if you have already requested this once.

4. Can I park anywhere on campus and how much does it cost?

There are designated student parking areas please visit the parking website for more information about cost and how it works.

5. I will be studying until very late, is it safe to walk to my car/bus station?

You should call Curtin Security on +61 (08) 9266 4444 to escort you to your car or the bus station.

6. Can I drive using my home country's driver's license?

The WA police advises that you obtain a WA driver's license if you will be in Australia for any longer than three months. Please visit the licensing website for further information. 

7. I lost my SmartRider, what should I do?

Visit our Customer Service and complete a new SmartRider form, you will then bring the form to the Bookshop. You will need to contact Transperth for them to cancel your lost card and they will transfer any remaining money to your new card.

8. I lost my student card, what should I do?

You will need to go to the Student Service Centre (Building 101) to obtain a new card, please also call security on +61 (08) 9266 4444 and let them know so they can cancel your lost card.

9. How do I get a letter saying that I am currently studying at Curtin English?

Complete and sign a Student Request Form and drop it at our Customer Service.

10. Where can I heat my food?

There are a few microwaves around the university you can find one in the student common room in the Guild.

11. Are there any computers on campus for me to use?

There are a lot of computer labs around the university, these include building 303 and the library. Visit the Abacus Lab website for more information.

12. I have changed my address, who should I advise?

Please change your contact details on your OASIS. Visit our Customer Service if you need help with this.

Overseas Health Cover Questions

  1. I paid Curtin English for my health cover but have not received my card yet, when will I get it?
  2. The name on my Allianz OSHC card has been misspelled, how can I get this corrected?
  3. My family has just joined me in Australia, can I add them on my Allianz OSHC?
  4. How do I claim for my medical expenses?
  5. Do I have to choose Allianz?
  6. I am on a tourist visa, do I still need health insurance?

Overseas Health Cover Answers

1. I paid Curtin English for my health cover but I have not received my card yet, when will I get it?

The card usually takes about two weeks (from the start of the module) to arrive. If it has been more than three weeks and you still have not receive your card please come and see our Customer Service Officers.
If you need to see the doctor and have not received your card, come see our Customer Service Officers, we will give you a temporary certificate.

2. The name on my Allianz OSHC card has been misspelled, how can I get this corrected?

Correct it on the OSHC Allianz website, you can also use this website to order a new card if you lost your original one.
Your Policy Number is your StudentID followed by CU
Example: Student ID:12345678
Policy Number: 12345678CU-CEL

3. My family has just joined me in Australia, can I add them on my Allianz OSHC?

Yes.  If you have arrived in Australia, please see the Allianz representative at Student Service Centre (Building 101), open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

If you have not arrived in Australia, please email English.admissions@curtin.edu.au and we will assist you with the arrangements.

In both cases, you will need to provide the full name of your family members, their date of birth and gender. If payment has not been arranged, you will need to do that.

4. How do I claim for my medical expenses?

Please contact your health insurance provider. If you are with Allianz, an Allianz representative is stationed in Student Service Centre (Building 101), open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. You can make a claim there.

5. Do I have to choose Allianz?

No, Allianz is Curtin’s preferred provider but you are welcome to choose another provider, if you decide to do so, please bring your insurance card to our Customer Service.

6. I am on a tourist visa, do I still need health insurance?

Yes we would still advise you to get the appropriate cover while in Australia.

There is a medical service on campus, you can call them on +61 (08) 9266 7345. If you cannot make an appointment with them and urgently need to see a doctor please visit our Customer Service.

3. I am being harassed and need help, where can I go?

Come meet our Student Advisor or call Curtin Security on +61 (08) 9266 4444.

4. One of my friends is having problems, how can I help him/her?

You can contact the Safer Community Response Team, you can make an anonymous referral.
